Codford St Mary, Wiltshire

I thought these volutes had a sort of animal-eye type effect. Or is that just my overactive imagination. Next stop The Owl Service.

Buckland Dinham, Somerset

St Michael's church is right up on the hill, like lots of St Michael's churches are said to be.

It has a lovely plump font with a big angular zig-zag. Well it's partly zig-zag, and then the carvers changed their minds and had a partly a frieze of round things instead. Which is an idea I like a lot, as indeed why not have both.

I visited specifically to see the Beaky Creatures of the superb main doorway.

But luckily someone had come to clean the church and I was also able to see the figures carved on the font.
